The Institution of Environmental Sciences (the IES) is at the forefront of uniting this interdisciplinary field around a shared goal: to work with speed, vision and expertise to solve the world’s most pressing environmental challenges, together. As the global professional membership body for environmental scientists, we support a diverse network of professionals all over the world at all career stages. Members are also able to join Communities: groups brought together around a shared professional interest, goal, or challenge. Communities are an integral part of the IES ecosystem, providing thought leadership for their area of focus, and a forum for members to network, collaborate and shape their sector. At the IES we know that our members are the experts, and as such they are given the agency to set their own priorities and develop workplans aligned with their needs and interests.

Our land, air and water communities drive our work in these areas of the environmental sciences:

Land Condition Community

· The Land Condition Community spans sectors and job types, dedicated to promoting best practice in the specialism. The Community steers IES activities related to land condition and supports the development of tailored membership services, exploring synergistic collaborations with key stakeholders in the sector. The Community also has a dedicated network for Early Career Professionals, providing valuable opportunities for professional development and peer-to-peer learning.

Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM)

· The IAQM is the professional body for air quality in the UK, acting as the voice for air quality by producing guidance on matters affecting air quality professionals and responding to Government consultations. The IAQM supports the development of professionals working in the sector through provision of a busy CPD calendar and tailored resources, and has a bespoke Early Careers Network.

· On October 20th and 21st, the IAQM will be hosting its annual Routes to Clean Air conference in London. The programme will feature thought-provoking presentations and panel discussions exploring the most relevant subjects in air quality management. Foundation for Water Research (FWR)

· The FWR is a cohesive, innovative, and independent-thinking community of water professionals offering guidance and strategic thought leadership for the IES’s water activities, using an integrated, systems-thinking approach. · The FWR holds regular events and publishes content for water professionals. Other Communities at the IES include the Community for Environmental Disciplines in Higher Education (CEDHE); the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Community; Marine and Coastal Science; Climate Action; and the Environmental Policy Implementation Community (EPIC).
