Tony McGovern

Director of Regeneration & Growth, Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council

Tony McGovern has been a senior leader in the UK public sector for over two decades. He had an extensive career in the National Health Service ending as a Chief Executive of an NHS Trust; and has been in local government for nearly 20 years including as Chief Executive of two Councils for over six years. He is currently leading the £2.8bn Regeneration Pipeline in Sandwell which will deliver a wide range of infrastructure for residents and businesses for decades to come. One of the projects recently delivered directly by the Council is the £92m Sandwell Aquatics Centre in partnership with Wates which was used for the Commonwealth Games and has now finished the Legacy Phase Construction. The pipeline als includes the ENfinium EfW plant currently under construction in West Bromwich - the Council is committed to delivering a Local Heat Network connected to this facility to decarbonise key public sector buildings in the local area but which could be part of a wider Regional network over time. Tony is the Council's corporate Climate Change Lead and is committed to maximising social value, local spend / employment and low carbon from the huge pipeline of investment planned in Sandwell over the next five years
