James Honeyborne is a wildlife filmmaker with a mission to create entertaining and impactful viewing experiences for everyone who seeks to experience, enjoy and connect with the natural world. Biologist by degree and storyteller by heart; he was the creator and Executive Producer of the BBC’s BAFTA & Emmy winning hit series ‘Blue Planet II”, which broke all records in the UK as the most-watched wildlife documentary series for over 20 years.

The associated social-led campaign #ourblueplanet catalysed the global conversation around ocean health - creating the so-called ‘Blue Planet effect'. As an Impact Producer, his work has been recognised by the United Nations, the European Union and her Majesty the Queen, who presented the Blue Planet team with the Chatham House Prize for 'sustained impact' in galvanizing public engagement.

Whilst based at the world-renowned BBC Natural History Unit, his work included Sir David Attenborough's hit series 'Africa', Emmy nominated ‘Wild New Zealand’ and BAFTA-winning ‘Big Blue Live’.

Now Creative Director of Freeborne Media and Wild Space Productions, James’ most recent projects include working with Barack Obama on the Netflix hit Our Great National Parks. The series, celebrating and highlighting the importance of the wild corners of our planet aired in 2022. Its message is one that James holds onto in each project he takes on - that each of us is part of this precious natural world. It’s up to us to protect it, to care for it, and to pass on these wild spaces to the next generation.
